SO this stuff has sprouted up from a rock. Not bothering me as its kinda cool looking. I'm just keeping the rock edge up and away so it doesnt get a foot all over. Since its on top of the tank basically, its easy to remove the rock and prune it. Just curious as to the name of it.
p.s. not the calerpa

I want some! Don't care if it's toxic or not... that's about the coolest thing I've seen that's not a coral.

i ripped some off a month ago give or take. Basically i was aiming for the calepra but missed. anyway to the touch, it's rubbery. seems hollow on the inside.
krazy- if you want some, i plan on pruning the green this weekend so I'll slice some off and stick it on a rock and see what happens. if it takes off its all yours. hell if its actually algae, i'll have plenty to replace it anyway

I have a very cool green slime algea growing in two tanks now. It has the consistency of rubber and varies with the intensity of your light. It is not a real fast grower and pulls off the rock real easy, very thick. I transferred it to my 20 gallon and i am pretty sure it has taken hold.

looks like calerpa taxifolia (feather calerpa) to me. I might not be looking at the right thing in your pic though.

It is a form of calcareous macro algae. Sorry I do not know the scientific name for it. Pretty Cool! It means that your alk and calcium level should be very nominal.

Well, I took another look at the photo and now realize my answer was a little ..........stupid.
You were (now) obviously talking about the Rhodophyta growing below the calerpa. That stuff is definately pretty cool. Some sort of Halymenia ?
When in question...frag it!

so i looked some more and not sure the exact sp. of it. I thought it might be Lithothamnion but it isnt hard looking like that. Resembles more like Peyssonnelia or Renouxia. ???? it real pretty though so i rearranged and stuck it out some so hopefully it will spread.
