I think I'm getting clam happy: I've been having such good success with keeping my parameters in line lately.. I celebrated.
Bought the Squamosa (Far Left) and the Maxima (Top Right) last night.
Just moved them onto old clam shells (found on the beach) so they aren't laid out like this anymore, but they looked neat like this IMO.

That blue maxima is real nice. Is the second from the left a duresa?

Derasa, Blue-rimmed Derasa, Teardrop Maxima, and a Crocea.

That far left one does look like a derasa, doesn't it? Just looking at the mantle that's what I thought it was. It was sold as a Derasa, but it's a Squamosa, it's got the Scutes all the way down the shell and large well defined ribs. The rest are dead-on.

Question for you Xster, since you do clams. I recently moved the derasa to a more lighted area, from under a 14k to under a 10k bulb, afterwards the derasa had his incurrent siphon opened a decent amount. Not as bad as some of the pictures I've seen where people call it gaping, but a good bit. I moved him back under the 14k light tonight, and he closed his mouth back up. You think it prefers the lesser intensity of the 14k light?

That's a very good question, all my clams would kinda "gape" once in a while, but not for long periods of time. Maybe the reason is the strong current and the sand kicking up all the time. But honestly since I have changed to all 20K MH lamps, my clams looks a lot better and "gape" less.

Thanks.. That does help, I seem to remeber the knops book saying something about the preference for the lower end of the spectrum, could be wrong though.. I'm going to have to research it now and see.
Being that the Derasa is more of a deeper water clam, maybe it would really prefer the bluer of the 14k over the 10k. I have homework now

R.I.P. on the small teardrop maxima... I should have looked him over better when I got him.. His Bysal gland was missing. Guess he was collected rather roughly, probably had something to do with it. Never seemed to bounce back after I put him in my tank.

Teardrops are well known to be collected "roughly"!

I didn't look him over very well.. I guess it was impulsive, was a good deal (or so I thought) for a gold teardrop, but I will from now on. My crocea dropped his 'foot' in the bag on the way home, but didn't look as opened up as this one did. He's pretty much grown it back I believe and is attached to a shell buried under him. Plus this was a small clam, and I was not dosing phyto at the time. Just got the phyto in yesterday, actually ordered it for him.. oh well.
Found him when we got home yesterday with about 6 nassarius snails in him.
