Here's my...humble.. opinion

Ok, Guys....we made the trek to Pensacola today to check out the Aquaworks split stores. We went to the one on Texar first (the old store) and I was really impressed. I think it's gonna be a really nice place when it's all set up, they were hard at it trying to get the new tanks set up. they're using those grest short tanks, (4'x2"x15") already have the live sand and live rock and a really nice one set up as a refugium/macro algae tank with mangroves that looks great! They don't have a ton of stuff there yet, but are getting there. (if you're looking for snails, they have about a zillion!) The place is called Aquaria (at least that's what the card said).

On to the new Aquaworks....in the shopping center next to Winn-Dixie at 9th and Creighton. For any of you gamers, it's real close to TBS comics and is in the space where Bucks Heroes used to be. Tim has got the place going, lots of tanks along one wall...doesn't have a lot of stuff either yet, he said he'd had some problems with the fish, and is gonna let those tanks settle a little and concentrate on the rest. He has some nice Ricordia, and some nice clams....and quite a few things from a customer's tank. He did say he's got a special going....to get some tanks in he's gonna sell any Ocean View tanks for a dollar over cost. I checked on a 75 gal. tank and it was a helluva price.....might just have to go for it! :)
They're also having an anniversary special thru April on Saturdays with 10 to 50 percent off stuff in the store.

Anyway, I'm happy for both Tim and Dave....I like them both and will continue to support both places. In a way, I feel like P'cola has gained two new great places!

Just my opinion, Sue

Thanks, it's good to have an update. The only really sad thing is now Pensacola has 5 or 6 saltwater/reef stores and Mobile doesn't even have one. I wanted to go to Pensacola soon, how do you get to the new store (I am not that familiar with the area)?

It would probably be better for you to go I-10 to Davis Highway, go south a couple blocks to Creighton and take a left. Go to 9th (just past the Wal-mart) and go left, its in a shopping center about a block after you turn, there's a cici's pizza there.....and really, if you want to go ahead and go to Aquaria,we just go south on 9th till we get to Texar and take a right...then it's on the right after the bridge ...it's not too hard to find either.

Pensacola people....does that sound about right? The number for Aquaworks is (850) 471-9600.

I was wondering if there was anywhere to go in Mobile.....so far I'm happy with Pensacola, because they're all right there, I haven't been to Reefscapes yet...

Sounds pretty easy and it's fairly close to Reefscapes too. If you go north on Davis past I-10 you turn right on Olive and Reefscapes it right there. I haven't been there in a while though.

For those of you who know where Reef Scapes is just go there first.. Then when you leave turn right onto olive road and head toward 9th ave. Turn right onto 9th. Go over the interstate(I10) and the shopping center is just there on your right. I think you will notice the Ci Ci's Pizza sign. I'm not sure. The store is to the left of CiCi's. Scott, Let me know when you are comming this way, you can stop in and see my tank now that the lights are all up and running. Oh and if you still have that pink sinularia i would love to get a frag of it. It would look good in Jenn's tank(Titangirl).

Melissa and I hit Tim's new location Aquaworks off of Creighton on Saturday. I think it's going to be a good store when he gets things rolling. Not a lot of live stock yet, but I imagine it takes a while to get that stuff. Melissa got a Frilly mushroom, and some ricordea for great prices for her nano, I picked up an 4" odd colored monti-cap frag for $16 and a good sized Crocea for a good deal. All the prices were very good and Tim treated us like kings.
I asked for a quote on a new tank also, haven't heard from him yet... so I guess I might need to call him.
Oh something way cool.. he had a blue-ring octopus in from one of his customers spawn baby octopi. There are really some teeny tiny baby octopuses in 2 of tanks.. never seen that before.
We were very pleased. This is our haul :

Want to also mention Reefscapes. We went there also on Sat. Every time I've been their before they didn not have a lot of variety, but we were close so figured what the heck. It looks like they are redoing a lot of the store. The coral tank actually had a LOT of corals in it this time. That's the first time I've seen it where there is a bunch to choose from. Some SPS colonies, clams also. They're redoing the fishroom to turn it into a coral area, and the hospital area is now a publicly viewable fish display area. Had a 500gal setup in the middle of the store, not much in it yet though.
It seemed like the prices were a little better, but I'm not real sure on that, because I've only been there like 3 times before. Picked up a RBTA for $55Image, thought that was awesome for a local deal.

Sorry Scott, updated message above. Had to move it so I could take a picture of it. It's sorta homely looking though. I don't want to hear .. YOU PAID MONEY FOR THAT?? :) I bought it on the off chance that it might change colors under different lighting conditions.

We should plan another MBRK field trip to Pensacola. Do it when I have money though :)
