Feeding?
Moderator: snoopdog
Hey Scott, I guess I would be one of those who are considered to feed heavily....I feed my tank for three days and then skip a day. I usually mix up a bunch of different stuff (like Krill, Mysis, clams and golden pearls one feeding, and then mix prime reef, marine pellets, brine shrimp and squid another feeding, but it's usually quite a bit) I target feed the corals and the fish usually get the rest, my tubastrea goes in a bowl every night and gets showered with food while I feed the rest of the tank. I've never had any kind of nitrate problem, just the usual occasional algae bloom which isn't usually too bad, but I also change 5 to 8 gallons of water every week.

I do alternating nights of:
two large sheets of Nori & a large pinch flakes
frozen mysis, about 1" square, dissolved in front of an outlet
Lately, I have been putting a day in-between the feedings, and my algea (on glass) has drastically reduced, and my refuge has all but stopped growing... I think I'm beginning to see that a 'fuge is just a buffer in case you overfeed, and isn't that useful otherwise... it's hella cool to look at anyways

I usually feed flake (I think it is prime reef flake) once everyday. Every other day I either feed cyclop-eeze, minced scallops or a homemade food (Romaine lettuce, raw shrimp, fish, scallops and a few other things). I only feed once a day and the fish consume it rather quickly. So am I a light feeder?
Wanted: to set up a tank again.
It all depends on how many fishes you have, and how big they are. Also, what is the size of each serving.
What I go by is the time frame that all the food is consumed and how many times do you feed.
I feed once a day (when I remember), sometimes frozen, sometimes by own recipe, most of the time flake (Formula Two garlic enhanced).
I consider myself a light feeder, but when I do feed, I tend to feed on the heavy side. Sometimes I go days (especially weekends and holidays) that I dont feed.
