So I put the rock in the tank today. What a trip that was. I had an eye doctors apt today to see if my newly diagnosed Diabetes has caused any problems yet and had to get my eyes dialated. I was putting the rock in the tank with no lights on in the room, just indirect light from the windows and TV and wearing my sunglasses. I must say I did a fairly good job of stacking the rock while not being able to see. I'll probably try to get a few of my things back next week. When I can actually see I wonder what the tank will look like. I'm having a hard enough time trying to read and type on the computer.
Its been just over 2 months I guess and my tank is back up. I love how a new tank looks. Its so clean. The only thing I have left to do is get a battery for my digital thermometer.
I went to pick up my fish and coral on Saturday. I spent probably 3 hours at Sue and Becky's place packing things up. Everything made it home in great shape dispite the horrible weather and riding in the back up my truck.
I did lose all the acro frags that I got back though. I'm pissed about this becuase two of them were really cool frags. I put them in a bucket to treat before putting them in the tank. Its going to be a standard thing from here on out. The idea was to treat them overnight, or at least 12 hours. Well I woke up sunday to check them out and the water was extremly hot. I knew right then nothing would make it. It turns out the heater malfunctioned and as it was only set at 75 it was still on and warming the water at 95 or so. At least they were only frags. (Note to self, get a new heater)
I'll count it as a success if all I lose is those frags and the cyano/dynos don't come back. I'll see if I can get some picture up here shortly.
I am in the market for frags, cheap frags. I have so much open space and wouldn't mind filling it in, and just don't have the money for full corals at this point. I actually spent more in setting the tank back up than I wanted to. So sps, zoanthid, ricordia, and lps frags are what I'm looking for.
Maybe so. But I still need to buy a heater for next time I need to treat them.
I'm not sure the black leopard wrasse is going to make it. He was laying on a rock when I got home today. He looks extremely skinny and slow. I think he hasn't been eating since I put him back in the big tank, but he ate tonight for me. I can't get him out to try to fatten him up in the 10 gal so I'm just going to have to cross my fingers and hope he continues to eat. I know there is a bunch of pods in the tank because I see them but he just doesn't seem to have the energy to hunt for them.
That just sucks....after all he's made it thru. I sure hate to hear that. How is everyone else? I'll just bet they miss that yellow tang.
A little 50 watt heater would be good. I find that a small powerhead will often keep the water warm enough, but I always have a heater in there anyway.
I think the other fish are scared of the tank right now. I know the lights are brighter but even when the MH are off they seem to hide in the rocks in a group. Did the tank keep them in a group or something? Its like they are afraid to be out in the open right now and the only one that use to be like that was the cryptic six-line. The Yellowfin is so fat. How much were you feeding him a day I fed the tank a lot tonight just to try to get the leopard wrasse to eat more and he did, but all of the other fish acted like they were starving. They would attack from across the tank.
LOL! I fed them once a day, same time as my fish. I didn't feed them alot at a time, for fear of water quality issues. He did seem to be the quickest to the food most of the time. The cardinals were getting pretty good at it themselves, but if they hadn't the Wrasse and Tang would have eaten it all. That may be why they attacked the food like they did. They were just fine with the tang, just kind of hung out. I didn't notice them hiding really, once they got comfortable.
I traded in a few things at Aquaria yesterday and picked up two new coral. The first two pictures are of the one that I don't know what it is. The last one is some type of favia. Does anyone know what the first one might be?
If you look at the full tank picture you notice that none of the rock is on the sand. I only have 1 or maybe 2 pieces on the sand. One right in the middle of the tank and one behind the rock somewhere. The rest of the stuff is on black PVC pipe that I drilled large holes in for water flow. I wanted to allow flow to go behind the rock and under the rocks to help eliminate dead spots. It seems to be working like that right now.
