I am good at melting it too. Personally I have better luck with Anthias(sp) and it looks just as good as Xenia. It does not spread as fast as Xenia so it is easier for me to control.

Is all this steroidal xenia growth from having metal halides, or is it from flouresents or what? I don't see how ya'll get to the point where ya'll are complaining about it all. I kinda liked it and I have trouble getting corals to grow in my tank period! Let me know some info on how you all are succeeding on coral growth, and what not to put in there with it. I've had some star polyps that I glued on the side of my tank about 6 mths ago and they haven't even doubled in size yet and they are close to the lights...by the way, I only have softies.

My Xenia has grown:
Under N.O. florescents
Under VHO only (220w, 330w and 440w)
Under 1 175w mh and 330w VHO
Under 1 400w and 330w VHO
Under 2 400w mh and 440w VHO
with high alk
low alk
high PO4
extreme nuisance algea outbreaks
low calcium
under rocks
up the glass
on powerheads
with underpowered skimmer and few water changes
over other corals (even some that should sting it)
I have even taken a rock out, scrubbed it off ith a scotchbrite pad and mounted a Montipora on it and it overgrew the monti. Now I keep the rock that it is on away from my main rockwork and prune it every few weeks. I have killed the elongata but the Red Sea is tough. It was the first coral i put in my tank so I have had it in a lot of different situations and it almost always thrives. Extremely low alk is the only thing that it really doesn't like.
