I think that you'll be disappointed with it's performance. I'm using one for my skimmer and another for my return pump on my 155 bowfront. Works fine for both those tasks but I'm afraid you'll find it underpowered for a closed loop.
I would consider $125 and your Mak 4 if you decide you want to move up. One of my Mak 4s is running a bit noisy and I wouldn't mind having a spare just in case. No rush though, talk it over and let me know.

I found the Mak4 a decent pump. I mean they are not whisper quite, but quiet enough I did not really hear it run. I could not hear the pump over my fans, so it was not that loud.

They are good pumps and relatively quiet. That's why I think that the one I have on my skimmer may be starting to go. As far as flow is concerned, I just think that a Mak 4 may be a bit underpowered for a CL on a 180. I think it would be dynamite for a CL on a 75. One way to be sure is to do a test run. Hook it up to an OM add water and turn it on. If you're satisfied with the flow, you're good to go. If you're not, you will be with the Hammerhead.

I just got done re reading this thread. My suggestion would be to use your Mak 4 for your return pump. It should work beautifully. You could use my Hammerhead for the CL or look for a Barracuda. I think a Dart will be too small.
I'm using a Mak 4 for the return on my 155 Bowfront (it would be a 180 if the front weren't curved) and it's perfect. It should be for your 180 too.

Yeah, I can probably do the trade, i hooked the pump up, its quiet, but probably wont be enough flow for what i want. I am going to use a mag 36 for my return pump. We have also decided to punch a few holes in my livingroom wall so we can put the sump, pumps, ballasts, etc in the garage. Keep the noise down in the house, and be easier maintenance. Going to build a smaller stand so we dont have to bend down quite so far, and the head loss is less. Only downfall is now i need to go get an air conditioner for the garage, summer time approaching, gets warm in there.
