Typically if you are running a low nutrient tank it will just stop growing or grow very slow but not die. I am using an Euro Reef 8-2 on my 100 gallon with a low bio load and it is very alive it just doesn't grow like it did when I had a Kent Nautilus TE. The faster it grows the more nutrients there are in your water. This is why is grows around area where pollution is a problem, like stormwater drains and sewage discharge outlets in the wild.

I just keep it in a specific tank. Wouldn't have it in the reef, but in the 20 with other things that need high nutrient water and very little to no skimming it does well. I've got extra if anyone needs it.

I had some in my old tank and when I treated the it with Maracyn (sp.) it killed it completely. Just melted away never to return.

That looks like it Sue. The length of the polyps is dependent on flow so it is hard to tell. In my old 55 gallon the polyps would be about 5 inches long (I saw one at Rich's a few years ago that had to be 15 inches long). The color looks right though, what I have is cream colored.

Sorry I wasnt clear on that. I went from a Kent Nautilus about three years ago to an Aqua C EV180, and the overall dissolved nutrient levels plummeted. As a consequence the Xenia melted away (not that I minded that ). It also caused my green star polyps to temporarily peel from the glass. I love that skimmer.
