6500k is alot stronger than any other kelvin rated bulb available. I have switched back and forth several times. BUT, my tank was started w/ 6500's, so maybe there used to it. I would slack off a bit if you decide to run them, at least for a couple of days. Without a doubt, they are the BEST " GROW " bulbs you can get! The color is less than attractive, but if the corals are happy then I'm happy. You will see a differance if you run them for at least a month. If you doubt me ask any shop, they will tell you the same thing. I make it a POINT not to pass on any incorrect info when it comes to this hobby. Try them, you probably won't like the color, but they will grow your corals faster than any other bulb that I am aware of. Once you get your desired growth, SLOWLY re-acclimate them to your desired color bulb, and you will be more than impressed. It will take your corals awhile to color back up to your new light though. The way I look at it is: The 6500k's replicate shallow water natural sunlight as best as possible, to date. Higher kelvin bulbs tend to replicate a deeper water look. You will see this if you run them. Corals are very adapt to high light, then maybe breaking off and falling several feet in depth, only to re-grow at different light levels. That's nature.Jahdiel wrote:We have some 6500Ks, but never tried them due to the yellow color.
You say the grow out is better with them? We have the MH's as
mentioned along with 4 Super Actinic. Do you think experimenting
with different combinations (MHs) will affect the corals?
