A nest of some sort.. or I just don't know

I have something that has just appeared in the middle of a rock of polyps..

The pictures are not the best, it is not really in a good spot to get a picture of it. It has a hole in the top of it and one on the side.. It looks like it made of sand? No clue what is making this.. Anyone have any ideas?

Ok... I think I know what it is. It is not a mutant spaceworm building his lair. I think it is a growth of sponge with sand stuck to it.

I opt for the first one. Sounds better that dirt covered sponge.

kinda looks like fried anthelia...i have some in my tank,..got to close to the halides

..but it looks exactly like the picture...like dirty little stalks
