Remember the DARPA competition for autonomous robots, following a course? I don't know if it was first, or if iRobot has been pursueing this idea previously, but in either case, here's the real-world application. Be sure to check out the movie... this thing can follow a lead vehicle (as in a convoy), run an autoamted path, obstacle avoidance, etc... neat! Check out the FCS SUGV, the smaller cousin of the immensely popular Packbot while you're at the site too.
