How much do you dose.

Post by snoopdog »

I am just curious what people are dosing for calcium. When i was looking at Shawn's tank Saturday the question popped in my head and now i am getting curious. So what do you dose, brandwise. How often do you dose and what size tank ? How many calcium loving things do you have.

26, 29, 20 and 5 gallon. Capful for the large tanks, quarter capful for the 5 gallon of Kent 2 part once a week on Friday or Saturday. Very low calcium needs only a few LPS. I wait 10 minutes between the two parts.

Calcium reactor keeps my calcium level at about 450. I also use about 5 gallons of kalkwasser topoff water a day. A couple times a week I dose about 50ml of Part A and Part B. Last month, I added 10 teaspoons of calcium chloride to the tank which made the calcium level jump to almost 480. I was impressed with the way the SPSs reacted. I may start doing that 1 time a week.

I have a 190 with about 60 in the sump/fuge. 2 LPS, 4 monti, 20 acros. Most all SPS are smaller frags.

Brand wise...ESV Calcium chloride, ESV B-Ionic (A and B), MRS. Wages Pickling Lime.

With a smaller lighter load tank a two part like Kent A& B will work but if you get in the larger tanks over 100gal then I suggest a reactor and auto water top off.

I use 60ml of B-Ionic every day to maintain my calcium around 450. I use calcium chloride if I need to raise my calcium in my tank by a lot. 92 gal tank with some of everything in it.

I dose 1 cup of the 'homemade' recipe (Ca and Carbonates). To raise my Ca levels I dose morning and evening 1 cup, but to maintain I dose just 1 time a day.

See this post regarding Randy Holmes-Farley's recipe: http://www.mbrk.com/viewtopic.php?t=119 ... ht=article

I'm no longer doing it because it was a PITA, however , I found that to keep my levels high, I had to dose 500ml per part ofRandy's homebrew recipe.
