Current LFS List

Post by Scott »

I could use a current list of the LFS's within an hour or two of Mobile that are currently open and have a good selection.
In Mobile I know of Progressive but right now that is the only store that I know of. What are other LFS's in the area that have a reef section or are dedicated marine stores?

We have a store over in Biloxi but it is a really small store. I would look towards Florida.

Well Scott here is my opinion on the local stores what they have to offer. Most of the places are still around with exception of a couple. Not to many new ones have opened up either.

Mobile

Progressive Marine
Great Selection of corals and few fish with reasonable prices

B&B Pet Stop
Good selections of fish and corals, but prices are high. The Salty Friday deal makes the prices a little more reasonable.

Pensacola

Aquaria
Good place for some corals and sometimes have ORA frags. Low selection of fish. Good prices

Reef Scapes
They started getting in ORA frags and some $20 Fish Head frags. That is all I really go their for. Most the time No (or very little) fish. Other then a select few things prices are a little high.

Water World
Have not been in a while but they always had a great selection of fish and a few colonies of coral. They also had two tanks of common frags that were a good deal. Most of the prices their were a little high.

Reefers Paradise
New store that is still making changes to the shop. Good selection of high end corals and a few fish. Most the prices that I seen were a little high but then again they were higher end corals.

Fort Walton Beach Area

Matt’s Coral Connection.
Only been to this place one time. They had a good selection of corals and frags. Most things I liked were $30 and up on frags. Not a big selection of fish.

Gulfarium
Been about 2 months since I was their and they had a great selection of corals and some fish. Also had a bunch of frags ranging from $5-$15 for zoos to SPS and also had some ORA frags for an ok price. The first time I was their, they had SPS for $5 a frag. Over all a good place to go if you are over that way.

That is about all that I have really gone to in the past year. As for Mississippi and Louisiana or North Alabama I never go to these areas to check them out and see what the stores have to offer. May be someone else can comment on them.
225 Gallon Aquarium, Two 40 gallon frag tanks, 75 gallon refugium, 30 gallon sump
neptune aquacontroller III
Lighting = 3 x 400 watt MH, 4 x 6' VHO's,
Pumps = Panworld 100 (return), 2 x Vortech MP40, Seio 1500
ASM G-4 Skimmer, GEO calcium reactor.

There was one in Atlanta that was the best that I had ever been to. I will see if I can figure out which one. It is a long way to go but I was in the area for training at the time.

Scott, are you talking about Cappuccino Bay? I went there once about 4 years ago and was wowed. Haven't been back since, so I don't even know if they are still around.

I am pretty sure that was it. It was in Alpharetta, GA. I had met someone on the Atlanta Reef Club forum and that is where we met to trade frags. I can't even remember her name it's been so long ago.

According to TheReefTank.com it closed in October 2008. That is a real shame. Seriously the best LFS that I have ever seen. They had frag tanks in the back that were loaded and reasonably priced. They also welcomed trades.
