Re: RO/DI Water Storage
I used to have the Brute but it was barely enough water for me to do a water change when it was full, so I went to the flea market and bought one of those plastic 55 gallon barrels used for soda syrup. There's a guy that sells them for 15 bucks. Just rinse them out and you're good to go. I added a s...

Re: Update On My 100 gal.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4427gPhXaFE&feature=g-u just for you lol LOL, that's a good one and about right. If I can ever get my tank stabilized, I'd love nothing more than to be able to keep about 6 tangs in a 100 gal. successfully, that way I can prove to those morons on other forms (whic...

Update On My 100 gal.
After my previous thread below entitled "Frustrated", I figured I'd start a new one with an update on things and what I've done. The last couple of days everything has improved. After losing my Atlantic Blue Tang, Blue Hippo Tang, and 2 clown fish, I was at my wits end. The existing fish, ...

Re: Stores in new Orleans
I was at this one a long long time ago. I can't comment on how good it may be now: http://www.coralconnection.com/start.htm Decent store. You can occasionally find great prices on fish there. I think they had a Midas blenny priced at $16, but it was sold when I went. Pricing was still noted on the ...

Re: Frustrated
Didn't know I needed to use a heater while mixing the water. I have a small one I can pull out of my QT tank and drop in the big rubbermaid container I use to mix up water. As for letting it sit overnight, I don't do that either. I mix the batch, get the salinity correct to a minimum level of 30. On...

Re: Frustrated
Well in addition to my black and white clown dying last night, my other clown fish that came with the tank died today. Oh and my blue hippo is fading fast; lying on his side breathing heavily. I don't think he'll make it through the night. Sucks....hate watching them suffer. I tried feeding and even...

Re: Frustrated
I'm using a refractometer to measure salinity. Andy calibrated both mine and his; actually calibrated them twice because the first time (right after he first did it when I bought mine), it was off a bit. My RODI unit filters/DI has been recently changed out (recently as in around August 1 when we se...

Re: Frustrated
Nitrates still off the charts at around 40; after water changes, 30-ish. Alkalinity 10, Calcium was 380, bumped it up slightly last week, salinity at 30 per refractometer (which is in the 1.021-1.025 range), TDS of my RODI water is showing at 5ppm. (005 on the meter). Temp has been at 78 until I upp...

Re: Frustrated
I'm still going to maintain feeding of mysis shrimp w/ garlic powder mixed in, as well as nori w/ garlic powder, in addition to the ocean nutrition pellets. There's just no way for me to QT all of my remaining fish in the little 10 gal QT that I have. That will only accelerate their death. I'm worki...

Re: Frustrated
The $50 black and white clown died today. Can't find him. Everything is dropping like flies, so I'm going to let it all die off and then let it sit until I'm ready to tear it down and sell it, or just leave it set up with hardly anything in it. I hate to sell a nice setup, but this thing is really p...

Re: How much $$$ have you spent on this Hobby
I've spent well over a meager $500 in a few months since I've had my tank, and I have lost several expensive fish in the process. This hobby is like going to the casino and throwing all your $ on a shitty bet on the craps table. I'm just not good at it, nor do I have the experience. At least with my...

Re: Frustrated
The most I bumped the temp to was 81 or 82 max and I did it over a day or so in 2 degree increments. The fish tolerated the higher temps just fine; however, my huge rose anemone and some of the corals looked a little rough. I think I backed it down to 80 and I normally keep it at 78. I do have to co...

Frustrated
My favorite fish died last night--my Atlantic Blue Tang. B&B recently got 3 in after the owner contemplated ordering some. I happened to be there and overheard him and asked him to order them because I was looking for one. I picked up 1 of the 3, Andy picked up the 2nd one, and one other reefer ...

Welcome.
Possibly interested in that protein skimmer if you decide to sell. I need to upgrade mine.

Does Anyone Have an Aquaripure?
If you're not familiar with them, they're an expensive de-nitration system and basically look similar to a skimmer. Those on other sites that have purchased them seem to be really happy with the results. They pretty much keep your nitrates at 0. I'm considering getting one of these in the spring aft...
