If you haven't found any acrylic rods yet you could try drink mixers (swizzle sticks). Just cut off the ends and cut into two or three inch pieces. You can sometimes find them cheap at a dollar store.

No, not yet. I picked up a piece with three polyps just after Thanksgiving. I have no experience with cutting polyps asI am used to the mushrooms doing all the work for me .
