Animal Planet's "Tanked!" series
Anybody watch "Tanked!" on Animal Planet, yet? While entertaining at times, I'm not that big of a fan. I think the show is better suited for the Discovery Channel rather than Animal Planet, since these guys focus more on tank fabrication than anything else. The whole ado about ethics is an...

Re: Can't keep snails alive
Keep in mind a lot of these snails are in very rough shape before they ever make it to your tank. Heck, most of the time, they are doing poorly by the time they arrive at retailers because of how wholesalers handle (abuse) them. Parameters are fine and certainly acceptable to snails. FWIW, the bumbl...

Re: CPU, heatsink, graphics card, and RAM FS
I hear you on that. Glad to know that processor is still chugging along well. The Core 2 Quads were a decent series for sure. I'm playing around with this i7 2700K now--it's been tricky for me, especially the heat. The second I try to overclock the thing, the temp skyrockets into seriously unaccepta...

Re: Damsel Temperment Question
Several different ways/views on this. You can introduce more than one fish at one time, which has its own downsides, like quarantine complications. There's also housing the damsel or new fish in a clear "breeder" container used for livebearers. Turning off the tank lights for 24 hours and/...

Re: Restarting my seagrass build
I wish I had a PAR meter to make sure of these things. I honestly thought that if the fixture was ~26" away from the coral it would've been fine. Apparently not. The XM bulb is just a lot brighter than I expected.

Re: Restarting my seagrass build
Quick update: I took some pics and even a really short video. The cyanobacteria from the last harvest is now subsiding. The muck causes it to pop up and hang around every time. http://youtu.be/c51dNDItdZM http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z107/Amphiprion_photos/DSC00035.jpg http://i188.photobucket....

Agreed. A photo would help tremendously, as there are a lot of potential things it could be.

Re: Spectrapure vs Bulk reef supply ro/di system
Structurally, nothing. With Spectrapure you are getting tweaked and tested components-mostly the same as you would get from BRS. The Spectrapure ones usually boast higher efficiency and longer life. You can stibut get decent life and efficiency, but you'll pay more for Spectrapure's optimizations. O...

Re: wtb 1200-1800 gallon /hr pump
I have an Oceanrunner 6500 lying around. I used it for 1 month before I decided to break my previous tank down. Let me know if the flow curve fits your application, as head pressure is important for many skimmers, like downdraft, beckett and AquaC.

CPU, heatsink, graphics card, and RAM FS
I'm replacing my old ASUS motherboard that is trying to die on me and I was left with few alternatives other than to completely upgrade. It wouldn't have been worth getting another LG775 socket motherboard, since the only ones I could find didn't have the features I've been using, nor would it have ...

Re: AEFW, Treatment and QT tank.... Help
Well, the fluke tab treatment doesn't seem to be as harsh on corals as many things are. You could also try some of the other commercially available dips like Revive, blast the coral a bit, and see if you find any individual worms in the bottom of a container. That would at least let you know

Re: AEFW, Treatment and QT tank.... Help
I've only dealt with them once and on a very small scale, which consisted of one specimen of Acropora. I used the general recommendation of fluke tab dips and repeated weekly until they were gone, which only took about 2 (did one extra to be safe, though) treatments for me--I also blasted off as man...

Re: MH time
Mine runs for approx. 8 hours (about 7 hrs 35 mins more exactly, since that's what the timer landed on). Not sure how applicable that is for most, but when I had more corals in my current system, they seemed to be just fine with that.
