Pump Woes
I discovered today that my sump return pump (Blueline 20) was not working. :( I took the cover off and it's turning over fine. The impeller is intact, but is not turning freely. Shouldn't it be? I have never done any service on this pump and I know little about it. I tried to pull the impellor from ...

Frilly Mushroom removal
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove a frilly mushroom without mangling it? I have a population control issue and want to give some to some friends.

Powder Brown Tang and Ich
Ok. So I just brought home a powder brown and on closer inspection, I see some ich. The fish is eating well and very active. Looks fine otherwise. I have limited tang experience so I'm not sure if I should panic or not. Can a fish got over ich on its own? Should I just wait and see? I don't have a Q...

Phosphates in my R/O water
I tested the water from my R/O unit and I think there are phosphates in the it. (.5 ppm at most) The membranes are only about 4 mos old. Is the R/O unit supposed to remove all the phosphates from the water? I am seeing a small amount of hair algea growing on some porites and I'm trying to figure out...

Refuge light cycle.
I was wondering whether it was better to run the light on my refuge 24 hours or just run it opposite of the display tank lights. I heard it was better to run them opposite to help stabilize pH throughout the day. But I'm afraid its slowing down the growth of my cheato and reducing the nutrient absor...

HQI vs. Single Ended
I cannot get a consistent answer on this. Is a double ended bulb better than single-ended? I'm getting ready to buy some metal halides and I want to make sure I'm making the right choice.
I've heard I could get the same light from a HQI 175 watt as a SE 250 watt. Is that true?

This is pretty cool. I think I'll wait for the price to come down though.

Want MH...worried about temp
My problem is that I want to put two 250 MH's on my tank but I'm worried about temp. My tanks temp stays around 79 degrees right now. That's with fans on the main tank and the refuge. I have 2 vho's, 1 65 watt LOM refuge light, and 3 700-800 gph pumps contributing to the heat. If a put two 250 MH's ...
