Creature Identification.

Post by HCJohn »

Hi all,

Yesterday I had an animal crawling around in my Xenia. It looks alot like a fuzzy catipillar, about 2 inches long. I tried to catch it and pull it out to no avail. It was actually pretty but I know worms of different types can cause different problems. I have got to get a digital camera for these types of things. Do you guys have any idea? It wasnt really round like a catipillar but it wasnt totally flat either. I Anyway, without a pic Im probably out of luck but dont mind asking. :)

Thanks

After doing a bit more research, seems I have a fireworm. It isnt really that color but the shape and features are very much like this one.

I do know I have at least one bristle worm as well, just this one freaked me out. :) Seems that for the most part they are beneficial and I guess I will leave him in. For now.

Thanks again guys. Help is very much appreciated.

Oh you have way more than one, try around one per gallon as a safe guess.

If it is a fire worm I would try and catch it. Not with bare hands though, you might try and build or buy a bristle worm trap.
