Frogspawn fragging techniques.

Post by Scott »

For those of you that left early or did not attend the March meeting, you missed out on a good lesson in fragging. I have never fragged a LPS coral before so it was a learning experience all around.

The coral that was fragged was Terry and Cliff's branching frogpawn (Euphyllia paradivisa). The skeleton of this coral was very brittle and was very easily broken by hand. I have also heard of using a Dremel to cut the skeleton (if you can get it out of the water) or a swift blow from a hammer or crow bar. The latter techniques would only be necessary if the skeleton was dense. I was suprised at how easy this was.

ive fragged acro, frogspawns, bubbles, and torches and hammers, they stalks seem to break very easily.ive also propagated toadstool leathers and star polyps. pretty easy, you can be rough with them cause in the wild their used to rough waves and current beating em up.

What kind of hammer's have you fragged. I would like to get a green hammer, but all the ones that I have seen are the phalloid (sp?) skeleton and I would be scared that the flesh would be torn. The acros that I have fragged were very easy to break and I have never had any problems fragging softies, star polyps or button polyps.

Do you have any acros or SPS that you can sell or trade frags of?
